چکیده

Subdivision surfaces are de ned by a mesh of points and by one or more re nement rules according to which new subsets of points are substituted for existing subsets which are usually smaller in size, to yield re ned meshes. The re nement rules de ning a subdivision surface are known collectively as the re nement process de ning the surface. Re nement processes of interest are any for which the successively re ned meshes can be shown to converge to a subdivision surface with known smoothness properties. In this paper we report on the progress of our investigations into software abstractions for re nement, providing for a generic editor to be implemented that can assist in the design of any subdivision surface.

REVERSE LOOP SUBDIVISION FOR GEOMETRY AND TEXTURES

Reverse subdivision aims at constructing a coarser representation of an object given by a fine polygon mesh. In this paper, we first derive a mask for reverse Loop subdivision that can be applied to both regular and extraordinary vertices. The mask is parameterized, and thus can also be used in reversing variants of Loop subdivision, such as those proposed by Warren and Litke. We apply this mas...

A Degree Estimate for PolynomialSubdivision Surfaces of Higher RegularitybyUlrich

Subdivision algorithms can be used to construct smooth surfaces from control meshes of arbitrary topological structure. However, in contrast to tangent plane continuity, which is well understood, very little is known about the generation of subdivision surfaces of higher regularity. This work presents an estimate for piecewise polynomial subdivision surfaces by pointing out that curvature conti...

Capturing Outlines of Planar Generic Images by Simultaneous Curve Fitting and Sub-division

In this paper, a new technique has been designed to capture the outline of 2D shapes using cubic B´ezier curves. The proposed technique avoids the traditional method of optimizing the global squared fitting error and emphasizes the local control of data points. A maximum error has been determined to preserve the absolute fitting error less than a criterion and it administers the process of curv...

Intrinsic point-based surface processing

The need for the processing of surface geometry represents an ubiquitous problem in computer graphics and related disciplines. It arises in numerous important applications such as computer-aided design, reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, medical imaging , cultural heritage acquisition and preservation, video gaming and the movie industry. Existing surface processing techniques predominantl...

SUBDIVISION and REFINABILITY workshop

Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) surfaces can be non-uniform and defined for any degree, but existing subdivision surfaces are either uniform or of fixed degree. The resulting incompatibility forms a barrier to the adoption of subdivision for ComputerAided Design. In this talk I will discuss our work towards a superset of NURBS which can handle irregularities in the control mesh. We call t...
